7 KEYS TO SUCCESS

“Success is simple. First you decide exactly what you want, and second you decide
you’re willing to pay the price to make it happen. And then pay that price.” - Bunker Hunt (Oil billionaire tycoon).

Success is no accident, but comes from daily decisions that cultivate effective habits. One thing is clear, successful entrepreneurs take disciplined action day after day, towards accomplishing their dreams. So what is their winning formula? In his book Unlimited Power, Anthony Robbins identifies seven characteristics that ensure success.

#1 Passion: What drives you?
‘Why you want to achieve something is more important then ‘How’ you are going to achieve it.  Does that surprise you? This passion or ‘juice’, gives your goal purpose and meaning. Passion to excel is what drives and motivates people to want to stay up late or get up early and persevere. So ask yourself, what is your ultimate reason for wanting to be, do or have what you desire? When you think about your goals do you feel excited, fired up and revved to go? If not, how can you adjust your goals so that it sparks your passion? Spending time thinking about ‘why’ you want something will focus your energy towards your most important goals.

#2 Beliefs: Do your beliefs support your goals?
Our beliefs about who we are, who we can be and what we can accomplish, determine exactly what we will be and do. If your beliefs or fears limit your confidence to respond to things, then these become obstacles. Many people are passionate about what they want, but their beliefs about what they are and what they can do prevent them from acting. Beliefs and passion are key ingredients that fire a person’s drive towards their goals. The more you believe you can achieve something, the more focused and likely you are to actually do it!

#3 Actions: What is your strategy?
Setting goals in line with your vision is the easy part.  Dreaming big is important – but you have to have a map to get there.  It is important to know how you can effectively organize your thoughts and actions so that you can manage your resources to focus your attention on doing the right things at the right time. What are the next steps you need to take?  Who else can you turn to for help? What resources do you need to support you?

#4 Values: Do you have a clear idea of what is important to you in life?
An awareness of what truly matters to you, a sense of who you are and why you do what you do will help you to stay on the path to achieving your goals. So what are your values, and how do they connect with your goals or action-plans for achieving these goals? If your strategy requires you to do things that do not fit in with your beliefs of what is right or wrong, then this can create inner turmoil, and a sense of feeling unfulfilled.  You will feel guilty and lose confidence if you do not operate with integrity.

#5 Energy:  Have you got enough?
Energy is what fuels your tank! Take care of yourself and make sure you’re having enough fun so that stress doesn’t take over.  Eat well, sleep well, laugh lots. Don’t let negative comments from others sap your energy – and don’t let negative thoughts from yourself get you down!  Surround yourself with people who are supportive, but still give honest feedback.  Make sure you have enough energy to be healthy and meet people with a smile and a firm handshake.

#6 Rapport: How well do you connect with others?
Effective communication means being able to connect with people from diverse backgrounds and beliefs to establish common ground. Having something in common creates rapport. Rapport make the other person feels understood, and feels you ‘get them’. It creates mutual trust so that the needs of both parties can be met in a positive way making tasks easier and more enjoyable.
#7 Flexibility: Can you bend?
Do you accept change as opportunities or threats? The way you react and respond to stressful situations will impact your decision to either carry on or quit. What do you say to yourself when challenges arise and disrupt your action plan? If you can communicate this to yourself in a way that allows you to respond flexibly and change your actions, you are more likely to move forward. Successful people are able to persevere in the face of adversity, and are open to other possibilities or changing their course of actions to get desired results.
